Covid-19 Return To Play Guidelines

These guidelines are put in place to help reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 while allowing players to continue playing soccer at Franklin Wake Soccer Club (FWSC). It is imperative that we work together to ensure that everyone is staying safe, and that we are able to continue providing this opportunity for your player(s).

Game Day Safety

All players, coaches, staff, referees, and parents attending must perform a temperature check and conduct a health screening prior to attending any FWSC hosted games or events. The temperature check and health screening may be conducted by the parent of a minor and reinforced by a coach or staff member to look for signs of infection. This includes:

  • Temperature Check – all players, staff or family members with a temperature of 100.4 or greater are prohibited from attending any event.

  • Health Screening – The following are to be asked by a parent of a minor prior to attending any FWSC event:
    1. Do you have a temperature of 100.4F or greater?
    2. Have you had close contact (within 6 feet for at least 10 minutes) in the last 14 days with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, or has any health department or health care provider been in contact with you and advised you to quarantine?
    3. Since you last played, have you shown any signs/symptoms of COVID-19?

If the answer to any of the above questions is “yes”, you are prohibited from attending any FWSC event, practice or game at any FWSC site until proper quarantine procedures from our state or local officials have been completed.

PLAYER POLICIES

  • Players are required to wear masks to and from the fields, during check-in, and while in technical/bench areas waiting to get on the field before and during the game. Masks are not recommended while actively participating in the warm-up or game.
  • Players should arrive no earlier than 30 minutes prior to their game time and allow individuals from the previous game to vacate the field prior to entering.
  • Players must refrain from handshakes, fist bumps, and contact within goal celebrations at any time during the event.
  • Players are always to maintain 6 feet of distance from all other individuals when not engaging in soccer activities, including while resting in the technical area during games.
  • Players are required to bring their own water. Any sharing of beverages is prohibited.
  • Players should not share any equipment or touch any field equipment.
  • Following the completion of a match, all teams are expected to complete post game conversations and vacate the technical areas within five minutes of the conclusion of the game to allow for the next group to enter the field.
  • No team or group photos are allowed at this time. As staged group photos are not considered a soccer activity, all individuals must maintain social distancing for the duration of the activity.

COACH POLICIES

  • Prior to the start of the game, coaches will conduct a player Health Screening Questionnaire for all players.
  • Coaches are required to wear masks while attending any FWSC game or event.
  • Coaches must follow social distance guidelines and remain 6 feet away from athletes, other staff, and parents at all times.
  • Coaches will be responsible for placement and pick up of all coaching equipment.
  • Equipment should be sanitized thoroughly at the end of each game.
  • To minimize the amount of contact, player cards are to be held by the coach or team manager during team check in. For substitutions, players will be asked to show their card to the referee and place it on the ground several feet from the sideline to be collected by the coach.

REFEREE AND STAFF POLICIES

  • Referees are required to wear masks upon arrival to fields, while setting up for game play, and at the end of the game. Masks may be removed during game play.
  • All referees must perform a temperature check and conduct a health screening prior to attending any FWSC games or events.
  • Referees are asked to maintain social distancing guidelines during match play and while conversing with other coaches and staff.
  • To minimize the amount of contact, referees will be asked to not hold player cards. Player cards are to be held by the coach during team check in. For substitutions, referees will track substitutions without holding player passes.
  • All matches will be scheduled with a minimum of 20 minutes between the expected end time of the first match and start time of the next.

PARENT AND SPECTATOR POLICIES

  • Parents/spectators are expected to wear masks while attending any FWSC event in accordance with North Carolina State and Local Mandates.
  • Where possible, parents must occupy space on the opposite side of their teams’ technical/bench area, and every family must maintain 6ft distancing while on the field of play and spectator sidelines.
  • The number of spectators per individual player should be limited to 1 or 2 individuals in order to allow for all families to have opportunities to watch the game while meeting socially distancing guidelines.
  • Following the completion of a match, all spectators are expected to vacate the spectator areas immediately to allow for the next group to enter the field.
  • Parents/spectators are asked to not gather at the field until 10 minutes prior to game start to allow previous spectators to exit.
  • Referees, Coaches, and FWSC Staff are permitted to instruct spectators to move further back if, in the discretion of the referee, a spectator’s position inhibits a referee’s ability to properly officiate a game while maintaining social distancing.

COVID-19 INCIDENT MANAGEMENT

  • Players who develop symptoms are required to isolate until meeting all Return to Play Parameters below. It is recommended that any players experiencing symptoms get tested for COVID as soon as possible.  Please notify our Board if your player attended practice or games within 48 hours of exposure via email.
  • Players who have had Direct Exposure, which as defined by the CDC as being within 6 feet, unmasked, for 15 minutes with a COVID-19 positive individual, are expected to refrain from training until proper quarantine procedures from our state or local officials have been completed..
  • In the scenario where an individual took part in a training session and later reported symptoms or having had contact with a COVID-19 positive individual, all connected individuals will be notified, but training sessions for that group will continue as scheduled.
  • In the scenario where an individual took part in a training session and later reported a positive test, FWSC will notify all players on the team of a positive test.
    -  If the family allows for the player’s name to be used in communication, FWSC will allow the sessions to continue as parents will have the information needed to determine whether their child has had Direct Exposure as defined above.
    - If the family of the COVID positive individual wishes for the player to remain anonymous, training sessions for that group will be cancelled for the next 14 days OR until enough players within the team complete the Return to Play parameters to operate a session/game. The ability for a team to participate in upcoming games will be dependent on the team's ability to attend games.
  • Given concerns for cardiac and renal complications after COVID infection, it is recommended that all COVID positive players are seen and evaluated by their pediatrician, including cardiac testing, prior to return to play.
  • As information continues to evolve regarding the transmission of COVID-19, FWSC reserves the right to provide additional recommendations to families or terminate team training sessions if needed.
